First Week
Friday, April 25th, 2008

My first week as a startup co-founder was pretty good!

Working for myself is something that I’ve been thinking about for years, and now that it’s here, it really feels no different than doing homework at home. I love it! If I hit a wall, I take my dog for a walk, and if I’m suddenly not into it, I work in the evening instead.

And, next week will be even better, as Greg will be joining me for the “official” kick-off.

One thing that everyone warned me about, that still took me by surprise, is the excessive time that legal and finance can take up. Just thinking about how the daily processes of our company, how things will happen and how things will function is a lot to think about. I knew this, I just hadn’t experienced it… Until now!

What I took away from this week: Taxes alone can suffocate you

My first day inside “the bubble”
Monday, April 21st, 2008

Today is my first day inside the startup bubble.

Greg Bell and I have decided to start our own company. Our primary focus for the next 3-4 months is a social community called, ScrnShots. ScrnShots is a place for people to upload, tag and share screenshots of inspirational design, usability or anything else of interest.

Everything still seems quite unrealistic at this point, but I’m sure that the long hours will bring a touch of reality with them.

Stay tuned, as I will be updating this blog regularly with interesting tidbits of acquired knowledge and grumblings.

ScrnShots - An App for designers to store/share/organize their screenshots

ScrnShots - Share your inspirationMy friend Greg Bell has been silently working on a project called ScrnShots for the past 3 or so months. It is an online application for designers to store, share, and organize their screenshots.

The need came out of a massive amount of screenshots that Greg had collected over the years. He had been organizing them using iPhoto (which I would consider a nightmare), but realized that others could greatly benefit from his massive library. At one point he tried using flickr to share them, but it was just weird because most of his contacts (ie. friends and family) didn’t care about screenshots of websites that meant nothing to them.

Greg, being the innovative person that he is, decided to create his own online community for sharing screenshots.

Currently, ScrnShots is in beta, but that is about to change within a month. And along with the launch of ScrnShots, Greg is releasing a few desktop integration tools. Right now, they will be mostly for use on Mac, but with a public API and a few nerds, that will hopefully be short-lived.

I have agreed to help Greg in whatever way that I can, and so I am going to be blogging/evangelizing ScrnShots like crazy in the next little while.

If you would like to help us create some buzz around this thing, let us know… or just blog, twitter, utter… or talk about it!
